Firecracker Yoga

Firecracker Yoga

Yoga unites, heals and transforms. Lansing yoga studios and instructors are standing strong together to raise awareness and provide healing for sex trauma survivors.  _JRM1500_1

Studios and instructors across Lansing have committed to participate in an ongoing series of yoga classes to raise money to help the Firecracker Foundation provide therapy for sex trauma survivors. Proceeds from Firecracker Yoga classes go directly to the Firecracker Foundation, a Michigan non-profit. Firecracker Foundation has teamed up with the Free Being Yoga Network, which will provide yoga therapy.

How to help?

Yoga studios and instructors: Contact LansingYoga.com, events@lansingyoga.com to sign up to schedule a class.

Etiquette/terms: Please read and agree to the etiquette and class terms.

Yoga students: Attend as many Firecracker Yoga classes that you can and donate. All the proceeds from these classes go toward yoga therapy for survivors.

Roll out your mat and dedicate a practice to the spirit and resilience of these survivors. Contribute what you can toward their healing and recovery.

Stand in solidarity with their journey.

HEALING ENVIRONMENTS (participating studios agree to provide healing and safe environments in their yoga classes by agreeing to these terms of etiquette.)_JRM1530_1

The first rule of yoga instruction, like medicine, should be “do no harm.”

Yoga therapy and yoga for trauma survivors must be driven by compassion.

Firecracker Yoga classes may attract victims of sexual trauma who are wishing to express solidarity for the cause.

As participants in the Firecracker Yoga class series, instructors agree to adhere to the following terms of etiquette:

* Respect body and space. Physical touch and adjustments will be limited to speaking and pointing. No touch without permission. Approach students from the front and not the rear. Restrict massages and caressing touches.

* Sensitive poses. Some poses leave students extremely vulnerable and/or cause flashbacks. Refrain from happy baby, reclined bound angle and others that leave the pelvis open upward.

* Heat/darkness. Refrain from overly heated rooms and dark rooms. Heat and darkness can cause a sense of being trapped or panic. (If you are a hot studio, please post a notice to participants that your Firecracker Yoga class will be heated, and note the temperature. Notify participants that if they are sensitive to heat and darkness they may want to choose a different studio participant.)
